How many umeboshi are in a 230g jar?

Depending on the size of the umeboshi, you can expect around 12-14 umeboshi in each 230g jar.

Should they be refrigerated?

Thankfully, this is more a matter of personal preference rather than of health and safety.

Storing them in a refrigerator is beneficial given the cool, undisrupted atmosphere.

But storing them outside of the fridge is fine too - just keep them out of direct sunlight and at room temperature.

How long do umeboshi last?

Umeboshi are preserved plums and due to the way they are processed, they are quite shelf stable.

Depending on the variety they can be safely stored from 6 months to much longer - you will find umeboshi that are aged for years before being unsealed and consumed.

Each jar will have a best-by date included on the bottom (year/month/day), as a quality indicator.

How can they be used?

Umeboshi is incredibly versatile. You'll find it can be used to add a pop of flavor to a vast range of foods - from traditional uses like on white rice or sushi, to using it as a topping on proteins, carbs, and vegetables. You can even incorporate it into salad dressing or marinades - the potential only depends on your preferences.
